Career Success in the Global Economy Presentation

Dream It. Do It.of Will County
An initiative is underway to raise awareness of career opportunities in advanced manufacturing and distribution to attract the qualified degreed and technically skilled applicants, and to encourage young people to pursue certificate and degree programs supporting these critical industries. This initiative is part of a national career awareness developed by the National Association of Manufacturers and the Manufacturing Institute. Locally, it is spearheaded by the Will County Center for Economic Development (CED), the Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association (TRMA) and the Three Rivers Education Partnership (TREP). www.willcareers.com

JASON Expedition—Operation: Infinite Potential
The JASON Expedition, sponsored by the ExxonMobil Foundation, is now in its eighth year. 2009-2010 school year's curriculum, Operation: Infinite Potential introduces students to leading scientists and lets them explore past, current and future challenges of energy generation, storage, and consumption. Through research articles, labs, field assignments, videos, computer games and other multimedia, students investigate and analyze emerging technologies designed to meet the needs of an energy-hungry planet.

Making S.T.E.M. Relevant
Teachers have a special relationship with the subjects they teach. It is this affection and appreciation that makes them want to share it with their students in rigorous and relevant ways. Working with the PDA and the University of St. Francis, TREP coordinates resources to offer a 3-graduate hour course, for teachers and counselors to explore how science and math content matter is applied in the work world to further expand their ability to engage and motivate student learning. Many Roads to Success DVD
An 11-minute DVD highlighting entry-level careers in the manufacturing, health care, and transportation, distribution & logistics fields. Actual area human resources managers explain the skills, attitudes and behaviors they look for when hiring. The focuses on "earn while you learn" experiences and opportunities and well-paying local career options that do not require a bachelor’s degree.

Plant or Business Tours
TREP arranges class tours designed for career awareness or work-readiness opportunities. For teachers desiring relevant real-world applications for learning, our advanced manufacturing plants, distribution facilities and healthcare businesses provide real-world applications for most science topics. Teacher Tours can be arranged upon request.

Process Technology Initiative
A certification program for Process Operations Technicians resulted from the collaborative effort between Joliet Junior College and local petrochemical, chemical, and energy generating companies. TREP continues to participate in the roundtable of educators and company leaders to ensure the program provides current, relevant and in-demand job training skills.

Resource Guide
The guide is a listing of K–12 classroom presentations by professionals on a variety of subjects and career exploration options. The offerings are aimed at reinforcing everyday classroom learning. The Resource Guide is available on our web site to TREP member schools. Resource Guide

Shoot for A's
TREP is the fiscal agent and grant administrator for ExxonMobil's Shoot for A's event. Proceeds of the fundraising event are made available to 6th-8th grade teachers in participating school districts to implement, enrich or extend learning activities that engage and motivate students' math and science education and learning.

Speakers' Bureau
TREP assists schools by securing speakers for their classrooms and other events. In an effort to address tomorrow’s work force, the speakers’ focus is limited to: manufacturing, distribution & healthcare careers, energy, math & science topics, or work-readiness.

Presentations can be adjusted by grade level or to increase a curricular connection.
